Facebook R&D Expense 2012 Q1 Vs Q2

Part of Facebook's problems are with it's rather weird R&D expenses. See how in 1Q12 the company invested only $153 M in R&D and one quarter later they invested $705 M. A figure which is almost 5 times higher. Any explanations for it?
